About You:

Position summary

The Senior Service and Installation Director leads service and installation execution across the company’s Kansas City, Omaha, Wichita, and Springfield branches. This role develops branch operations managers, establishes consistent operating standards, and ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and to the company’s quality expectations.

The director works regularly in the branches and at customer job sites to evaluate performance, coach managers, resolve field issues, and improve labor utilization and profitability. This position requires an experienced field leader who understands industrial service and installation work and follows through on commitments.

Leadership and scope

Lead the branch Service and Installation Managers, including separate managers in Kansas City and Omaha and hybrid managers in Wichita and Springfield. Branch operations managers remain accountable for daily crew supervision and execution; local schedulers coordinate customer dates and routine schedule updates.

The director is accountable for field standards, manager accountability, and resource coordination across branches. Work with the VP of Operations and centralized support teams on order readiness, materials, and closeout. Routine order entry, purchasing, invoice processing, and collections remain with the designated administrative teams. This position reports to the VP of Operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Key responsibilities

  • Set clear expectations for branch operations managers and review staffing, backlog, schedule commitments, labor utilization, safety, and quality with them regularly. Address performance gaps and verify corrective actions are completed.

  • Establish consistent service and installation practices, including job planning, crew readiness, customer site requirements, workmanship, and completion standards.

  • Review capacity across branches and coordinate technicians, equipment, and subcontractor support where needed, within company authority and approval guidelines.

  • Establish scheduling priorities and planning standards. Help managers resolve competing deadlines, labor shortages, delays, and difficult jobs that require support beyond the branch.

  • Conduct regular branch visits and job-site observations. Coach managers and field personnel, identify training needs, and support hiring, development, and performance management.

  • Establish subcontractor qualification and performance expectations. Evaluate safety, workmanship, reliability, and cost, and address unacceptable performance with branch managers.

  • Review planned versus actual field labor and subcontractor costs. Investigate overruns, callbacks, and rework, and implement changes that improve execution and protect job margins.

Safety and job documentation

  • Enforce company safety standards and applicable job-site requirements. Address unsafe conditions immediately and ensure corrective actions are completed.

  • Ensure branch operations managers verify required job safety analyses (JSAs), site orientations, permits, and other customer safety documents before work begins. Technicians or foremen complete site-specific field forms; CSRs or coordinators track and organize required documentation.

  • Hold branch managers accountable for accurate labor records, materials used, service reports, photos, punch lists, and customer acceptance where required. Coordinate with administrative staff so completed work reaches billing with complete field documentation.

  • Review incidents, recurring workmanship issues, and callbacks. Share lessons across branches and verify that training and process changes prevent repeat problems.

Coordination and accountability

  • Work with Sales, branch managers, and administrative staff to identify incomplete scopes, site conditions, material gaps, or unrealistic commitments before crews are dispatched.

  • Serve as the escalation point for significant field execution issues. Support local customer communication and involve the VP of Operations when decisions exceed delegated authority.

  • Report field performance and resource needs to the VP of Operations. Recommend staffing, tools, equipment, and training investments based on capacity and operating results.

Qualifications

  • At least five years of relevant experience in industrial service, equipment installation, construction, or related field operations, including demonstrated leadership of managers, supervisors, or field teams.

  • Practical understanding of crew planning, scheduling, labor productivity, job costing, subcontractor management, and project closeout.

  • Ability to read construction drawings, equipment specifications, and job documentation, and to translate requirements into executable field plans.

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to coach employees, set expectations, and address performance issues directly.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and service, project-management, or ERP software. Experience with dock equipment, overhead doors, material-handling equipment, or in-plant safety products is preferred. OSHA training or related safety certifications are also preferred.

Travel requirements

Regular travel is an essential part of this Kansas City–based role. Expect approximately 30,000 miles of business driving per year to visit branches and customer job sites throughout the company’s service area. Actual mileage will vary with business needs. Overnight stays are required when job locations, branch visits, training, or operational needs make them necessary. Candidates must hold a valid driver’s license and be able to meet the travel requirements.

Measures of success

Performance will be evaluated through schedule adherence and backlog management, technician utilization and field productivity, labor and subcontractor cost performance, callback and rework rates, safety performance, timely field documentation, customer issue resolution, and manager and employee development.

Compensation

$125,000–$135,000 base salary, plus an annual performance-based bonus opportunity of up to 40%. Compensation will be commensurate with experience, leadership capabilities, and demonstrated success managing construction/industrial operations. The company covers required vehicle expenses, including fuel, and provides the electronics needed for the role. The compensation package also includes full benefits coverage and a 401(k) plan with company matching.
